8A- Solving the Problem

The opportunity I have discovered through investigation of trends in my community is creating a safer way to get getting around at micro scale. Transportation by bikes, skateboards, and electric scooters is just not as safe as one might think. There is not sufficient space for cars and these other means of transport to flow as one efficient system. My first proposal would be to create a one to two person scooter that would have effective lighting while also having a means to protect its user from a fall or accident. Another route I can see is making protective gear that people actually want to wear. Most helmets and pads you see people wearing are unattractive and bulky. I am a designer so I feel this could be a very possible outcome. At a larger scale I would also like to see roads, especially in cities, change to meet the need of this micro transportation. I feel like micro transportation is very essential in urban places because people often don’t have the option to drive and cannot walk their route to their destination because it is too long.

  1. Baron,

I think you have some good thoughts here. I 100% agree that people just flat out dislike the way protective gear looks and feels most of the time. If you could find a way to make these trendy I think people would most certainly buy it. This idea is coming at the right time I believe too. With more and more people choosing to live a green life style we have to fill these holes in the market and keep people safe. I'm interested in hearing how you would make this micro transit system work.
