29- Venture Concept No. 2

In this exercise I am going to describe three very important aspects of what this startup is all about. This is opportunity, innovation, and venture concept.

First I want to dive into the opportunity side of my business. Months ago I was rigorously searching for an opportunity at the local and national level. There was a lot of opportunity but I needed to find the right one to create a successful business. I stumbled upon an article in my local newspaper about the increase in death rate of bikers in Alachua county. So I researched why people we all of sudden were having such serious injuries on bikes and that is where I found my opportunity. Gainesville is full of college students that ride bikes but I figure out an unmet need which was a clean helmet design. I have asked numerous students and staff about helmets and it is a very debated topic.

Young People do not want to wear helmets because they are not fashionable and are just to aid your safety. So in this market no company is really satisfying these pressing needs and that is why there is a scarce market for selling helmets to a younger crowd.

I think this opportunity that I have found is huge. No one has yet to be successful at passing this test but I think my startup has the secret sauce to bring in that younger crowd which is so crucial to my business. The reason young people do not want to wear helmets is because wearing one is “not cool” said by some. What I say to that is watch me make it cool.

This leads me into the next topic of this post and that id innovation. This is maybe one of the most important aspects of a thriving business. Innovation sparks interest among customers and get customer to speed the buzz about a company. So to make the helmet something that appeals to everyone I must innovate it. The first thing I would do to the traditional helmet is make it very portable. Carrying around a helmet all day is one of the biggest complaints I got from my feedback. To combat this I would make a helmet that would fold down and would be able to put in a backpack. Next, in my startup, I have found that having lights on the helmet are a must. This would help drivers be more aware of the bikers. This would also combat the rising death rate.

Another innovation that I think would appeal to the masses is a helmet that has technological advancements. I have been working with this aspect very closely. I sit and observe bikers pretty much every day and what I find very interesting is young people do not wear helmets but the will wear their beats headphones on their ride. So this helmet will be able to hook up with your phone and play music. This will also prevent people from using headphones which sometimes cancel out all of the outside noise which could be dangerous.

This product would not be very cheap to produce because of its technological advancements but I am shooting to get this product out to the public for under 200 dollars. I think this price point will attract enough people to buy this product.

The next part of this post will be dedicated to my venture concept. This is a very import aspect of my business. With my innovation of the tradition helmet I believe that I have solved the problem of our youth not wearing helmets. Being able to connect your helmet to your phone is something I’ve seen lacking in my market.

The most important part of my venture concept is the aspect of design. This is the most important part of the business because this is most likely where I will appeal to a younger audience. The product and its packaging will be designed very clean with the intention to grab the attention of this younger market.

My most important resource in this business will be this design aspect. Being a designer at the University of Florida has enlightened me to make the world a place with better design. I have faced many challenging problems in the field already and I believe I am ready to make design a highly regarded aspect of my business. In this venture I see myself next expanding into other means to use my design. It doesn’t have to to with just making safety equipment but I want to inspire a generation though items of pop culture whether this be shoes, clothes, furniture, etc.

After my positive feedback, I am now looking to build my brand. I think one thing I have really learned thus far is how important a brand is to a consumer. If I go to a store today many of my impulse buys end up being name brands. This is because these are products I can trust and feel good about buying because of their reputation.

I think something I really need to focus on is the technology side of things because it is so crucial in this day and age. I hope to inspire with this venture online and most importantly in person.

  1. Hey Barren,
I enjoyed reading about your venture plan. I also like comparing it with the first venture. I am excited for your desire to build the brand, initially to make it a possibility. I myself, am hyped for your future and all the success that may be within. I thought the helmet idea was good, and initially will prosper. All your previous blogs have also been great. I'm glad this semester has been such a great opportunity to grow and to see things in a different perspective. Good job!
