Local newspapers are a very effective tool to find everyday problems that occur in your area. It is a great way to think about future business and marketing schemes because most likely, your business will start on the local level. Figuring out needs of the consumer at a local level, can directly relate to a wider consumer market at the national and global level. I am going to give you five examples of these opportunities at the local level through newspapers.

Alachua Labor coalition works toward renters’ rights ordinance


Basically, the Aluchua Labor Collation had a meeting with the Renter’s Rights subcommittee about getting safety and health codes up to date on rented homes/apartments in Gainesville.
The problem presented in the story is that health and safety codes were not up to date. The Renters Rights subcommittee looks out for the the greater good of the renting community.

 This article was about the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and how they collected data to find that crime was on the rise in Gainesville in 2018. Increases in larceny, burglary, and aggravated assaults were the cause says the report. The problem with this data is that more crime is happening on our community.

Death rates are on the rise in Gainesville for bicycle related incidents. This nonprofit, Safe Gainesville, has assessed the situation and is now providing free bicycle lights for this devastating problem.

This article was about a recount after last years election. A recount in politics is when a vote is too close to call. The problem here is that there is human error when it comes to elections. This problem could be fixed by a system that is all autonomous.

Student fees may slightly hike next year


Students tuitions are being affected in this article due to more funding needed for the health portion of the University of Florida’s fees. The problem presented here is that the tuition is going up. Students who cannot afford this take the hit.
